INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON BIOELECTRICS 2007

Kumamoto University, Kumamoto City, JAPAN,      February 7-8, 2007

General Information

Bioelectrics...

refers to the use of pulsed power, powerful pulsed or radio frequency electric or electromagnetic field for extremely short periods of time, non-thermal plasmas in gases or liquids, to give new physical stresses to biological cells, tissues and/or organisms as well as bacteria. Bioelectrics is expected to open up new science and technologies, for example, the manipulation of biological cells, tissues and/or organisms for biomedical treatment, or the juice extraction from plant cells for food applications. The use of electric pulses enable us to produce non-thermal ionized gases, which may be used for bacterial, viral and chemical decontamination. Also underwater plasmas can be used for the bacterial decontamination of water.

The workshop...

… on bioelectrics has been held annually since the first workshop in Norfolk, USA, in March, 2005. Participants in the last two workshops were from the limited research groups in USA, Germany and Japan. The purpose of the workshop is not only to exchange the cutting edge research results among bioelectrics community but also to expand the community worldwide.

No Registration Fee...

is required for the workshop. The workshop is financially supported by the 21 Century COE Program on “Pulsed Power Science and Applications”.

Presentations...

The workshop will consists of invited talks and poster presentations. The invited talks include a keynote address on bioelectrics, a special lecture and regular invited talks. General presentations will be given for posters.

Official language in the workshop is English.

Abstract book...

with the workshop program will be delivered at the reception of the workshop.
